Mathematical
background: limited: I have taught basic math skill to students K-9,
took Algebra/Trig in high school and bombed…..dropped out and enrolled in a
Business math class and got an A, took one class in college for my AA and have
never tried again…attitude: “I’m bad at math”….requires an attitude
adjustment…..working on it. Maybe this
class will be a turning point.

Comfort
level with Math: Not really sure
I understand the differences
·
Word
Problems: (U)for me, the
hard part is not the calculations it’s understanding the words and how to
translate that into a mathematical problem
·
Application
Problems: (C or E), not
really sure if I know what this means. I
work with computer applications here at CU, but somehow I don’t think that is the
type of application you mean. If you mean taking real life/practical problems
and applying mathematical expressions to calculate the answer, then I am
somewhat comfortable (but if it means something else them probably extremely uncomfortable.
·
Conceptual
Problems: (U) I feel
abstract concepts and ideas are particularly difficult for me.
12. Comfort level with Math
·
Computations
and Calculations: (V) I
feel very comfortable here; after years of memorizing my addition and
multiplication tables
·
Using
formulas: (C) I feel
comfortable using formula’s in excel and for basic calculation, but Excel makes
you realize how powerful these can be and would definitely like to know more
·
Following
Steps and Procedures: (V) I
feel very comfortable following steps and procedures; in fact I am lost without
them, and don’t consider myself good at conceptualizing. (I need the
instruction manual, have no idea what to do if you just hand me the parts)
13.
Comfort
level with the following algebraic & Pre-Calculus Concepts: (U) I have an idea about many of these but could use
a review of all of the listed topics
14.
I have not taken any other QRMC courses
15.
Social Media I am familiar with: Texting and
Facebook (what about e-mail?)
16.
Social Media formats I use most frequently:
Texting and Facebook
17.
I am a Communications major
18.
I am taking this class to fulfill the math
requirement
19.
I will probably not take another Math class;
other than this class, I only need 1 other class to complete my BA.
20.
I hope to become a better at solving problems that
require mathematical reasoning and enhance my critical thinking skills.
